Create Proof of Concept for an immersive VR world out of a specific theme.

Concept - Space for Mental Well-being
I chose the option to design a space for mental well-being.
I explored different relaxing activities people enjoy, that could be reflected in a VR world.

Inspiration References
I wanted to create a comfortable space for the player to explore.

I liked the idea of telling a story, and developing a character through discovery of personal items in the game.
Lofi Girl

Life is Strange

Environment
Inspiration - Life is Strange is a choice based game, the more information you discover in the world, the better informed your decisions will be. The environment adds so much to the character development, cues picked up on can be the type of music they like from the posters, or photos they have taken with friends. Small details such as a height chart can indicate that a family has lived in a home for a long time.
Lighting
Similarly to Lofi Girl concept art, rooms in this game tend to be dim, and lit by warm sunlight, fairy lights, fireplaces and other sources of light. A way to further dramatize this effect is to add ‘bloom’ which is a post processing effect used to reproduce an imaging artefact of real-world cameras. The effect produces fringes of light extending from the borders of bright areas in an image, contributing to the illusion of an extremely bright light overwhelming the camera or eye capturing the scene.
Sound
The soundtrack is also a very big part of the game journey.
Lofi music will be playing gently in the background and will be the main genre of music.
If the user wanted to, they will be able to turn of the music and listen to ambient sounds of the environment. Some may refer to these sounds as ASMR. Relaxing sounds can include the crackling of a fireplace, the gentle purr of a cat for example.

Character Design
Using readyplayer.me I was able to quickly design a prototype character that shares some semblance between lofi girl and Chloe from Life is Strange. Although the game is played in first person, there will be a mirror that will reveal the character you are learning about through their enviroment.

VR Experience

This is my first VR project made for the Oculus Meta Quest 3. Now I have experience with kit-bashing and creating interactive objects in Unity. This project allowed me to experiment with sounds in a small space.
